Hi, I’m Janis, founding director of BOMA Coaching, and a passionate advocate of leadership coaching.
I’ve spent most of my professional career working with senior leaders and supporting teams from within one of the UK’s largest organisations, and have seen first-hand the positive impact leadership coaching can have on individuals, teams and businesses.
The last 30 years of my life haven’t all been about work, I’ve spent some of those years married to a Spanish man (hola!), raising our daughter, obsessing over great food, and being one of the slowest members of my running group, but I turn up for every session with the hope of getting a little bit better at it.
On the lead-up to a milestone birthday and having worked with the same company for so long, I was ready for something different, so I jumped ship and set up my own coaching business. It took me a while to get over the initial terror of ‘What the… have I just done?’, but embracing my newfound freedom, and with a mission to make leadership coaching more accessible, I began exploring opportunities.
Engaging with leaders outside the corporate world opened my eyes to just how many ambitious professionals don’t access leadership coaching as part of their career journey. After lots of conversations, with lots of different people, I realised there’s a whole cohort of people who don’t see coaching as something for them. They either think it’s for senior leaders in big corporate jobs, out of reach financially, or just something they can’t fit into their already busy lives.
And that got me thinking. How can I make leadership coaching more accessible? In my experience good coaching can transform a career, it can help people navigate their professional journey and help them realise their ambitions. So I sat down one day to figure out how to change that.
